The GIM Channel 01: The digital age of data in mining

Welcome to our first edition of acQuire’s new podcast – The GIM Channel.

The GIM Channel will feature a series of 20 minute interviews and discussions from mining leaders, technologists and natural resource industry experts. Every two weeks we’ll deliver insights from guest speakers on people, process and technology for managing one of the natural resource industry’s greatest business assets – its geoscientific data.

In our first episode, we chat with Paul Murtagh, an experienced exploration geologist, who previously worked on part of a standardisation initiative at Anglo American. This gave him the opportunity to take a closer look at how geoscientific information was being managed across seven mine sites in Australia and Canada.

He discusses digital data management and how GIM innovations have created improvements, cost efficiencies and better workflows in resources operations.

Show Notes

Here are some key take-outs:

  • Standardisation of data is so important across sites in large exploration projects.
  • Better data management can create improvements, cost efficiencies and better workflows in resources operations

“Geologists are great data gatherers but they aren’t great data managers Paul
